Sometimes it's precisely the trips where you don't devote all your time to a single hobby that end up being the most unforgettable.
We deliberately chose not to go on a traditional diving vacation, but rather a vacation that included diving. And we can say this right off the bat: We haven't regretted that decision for a single second!
Curaçao captivated us with its laid-back atmosphere, stunning bays, turquoise waters, and a fascinating underwater world. The island offers the perfect blend of a Caribbean vacation vibe, exploration tours, and diverse diving experiences.
One of the best things is that many of the numerous dive sites can be easily explored right from the beach. No complicated boat transfers, no tight schedule—just grab your gear, head into the water, and dive in.
And the conditions? With a glorious water temperature of 29 degrees and fantastic visibility, it’s a wonderful place to be. You could almost forget that you’ll have to resurface at some point.
Underwater, Curaçao showed itself at its best. Colorful coral landscapes, fascinating marine life, and exciting shipwrecks ensured that no two dives were alike. There was always something new to discover.
Our absolute highlight, however, was an encounter we won’t forget anytime soon: During one of our dives, we were incredibly lucky to glide through the water alongside a large number of sea turtles. Watching these elegant animals in their natural habitat was a truly special moment—one of those moments when you’re simply in awe and wish time would pass a little more slowly.
But Curaçao has plenty to offer above the water’s surface, too. The colorful capital, Willemstad, beautiful beaches, small hidden coves, and the laid-back Caribbean lifestyle make it easy to leave everyday life far behind.
Our Conclusion
Curaçao showed us that you don't always have to go on a diving-only vacation to have amazing underwater experiences. On the contrary: it was precisely the combination of diving, relaxing, and exploring the island that made this trip so special for us.
We’re taking home countless wonderful experiences, memorable encounters, and memories that will stay with us for a long time to come.
Curaçao will definitely remain in our hearts, and as far as we're concerned, the ABC Islands are a no-brainer: they're absolutely worth the trip!
Some trips end with the return flight. Others linger in your mind for a long time and just a little bit underwater, too.
